 Filmmaking, like architecture, is a collaborative art form with many moving pieces. This talk will be about how Visual Effects get done through successful (and sometimes unsuccessful) collaboration and teamwork on major motion pictures, and the lessons we can draw from those experiences.
New Zealand as a nation is known for it's digital film assets, on this evening we'll also explore how to turn the digital assets of a nation (New Zealand), into our industries of the future.Â
Jason Galeon is a Lead Lighting Technical Director at Weta Digital, and has previously held similar roles at Framestore and Sony Pictures Imageworks when he lived in the US and UK. Born in New York, Jason studied Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania and Rice University, where he learned practical model-making and lighting. These skills, along with practical construction knowledge, turned out to be perfectly suited for VFX.

He first made the journey across the Pacific in 2009, joining Weta with an already impressive filmography under his belt. Jason has previously worked on films such as Ice Age, Matrix: Revolutions, Fantastic Four, I Am Legend, The Dark Knight, and The Chronicles of Narnia. His more recent projects with Weta Digital include: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Avengers, Avatar, The Avengers, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and of course, The Hobbit.Â
